- I'm a 40 year old Momma "Warrior". I have two children; a daughter -19 in college and a son - 8 in the second grade. My son was diagnosed at 6 with a mild Autistic Spectrum Disorder known as Asperger's Syndrome. AS is a neurological disorder that hinders a child's ability to function socially either by verbal impairment or by their inability to interpret social situations as a typical child would. Many kids with Autism Spectrum Disorders are terribly misunderstood because they often appear normal and have average to above average IQ but are often delayed by several years across many other areas of development.
